The BC556BTA is a PNP epitaxial silicon general-purpose transistor from onsemi in a TO-92 through-hole package, featuring a -65 V collector-emitter voltage rating, -100 mA continuous collector current, and 150 MHz transition frequency. With a DC current gain (hFE) range of 180 to 460 at the B gain group and 500 mW power dissipation, it is suitable for low-power amplification and switching applications. The device is Pb-free, halogen-free, and RoHS compliant, serving as a complement to the NPN BC546/BC547/BC548 series for push-pull amplifier stages.

The BC556BTA operates as a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) in common-emitter, common-base, or common-collector configurations. As a PNP device, current flows from emitter to collector when the base is biased negative relative to the emitter. The base-emitter junction is forward-biased by applying a voltage approximately -0.6 V below the emitter, injecting holes from the emitter into the base region. Most of these holes cross the narrow base and are collected by the reverse-biased collector junction, producing a collector current that is the base current multiplied by the DC current gain (hFE). For switching applications, the transistor is driven between cutoff (base-emitter junction reverse-biased or zero) and saturation (base current sufficient to drive collector-emitter voltage to VCE(sat), typically -90 mV at IC=-10 mA). The 150 MHz transition frequency (fT) allows use in medium-frequency amplifier stages and oscillator circuits.

BC556BTA is a -65V/-100mA PNP general-purpose transistor from onsemi in TO-92-3 with hFE 110-800. The BC557BTA offers lower -45V VCEO for lower-voltage circuits.
