The ATMEGA328P-AU from Microchip Technology is the iconic 8-bit AVR microcontroller at the heart of the Arduino Uno, packaged in a 32-pin TQFP. Based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture executing 131 instructions with most in a single clock cycle, it achieves up to 20 MIPS at 20MHz. It integrates 32KB ISP Flash with read-while-write capability, 2KB SRAM, and 1KB EEPROM. The picoPower technology enables ultra-low power consumption across six sleep modes, while 23 I/O pins provide access to 8-channel 10-bit ADC, 6 PWM channels, USART, SPI, and I2C interfaces. The device operates from 1.8V to 5.5V. Note: This device is NRND; ATMEGA328PB-AU is recommended for new designs.

The ATMEGA328P uses the AVR enhanced RISC architecture with a 2-stage pipeline and Harvard bus structure, allowing most instructions to execute in a single clock cycle. The 32 general-purpose working registers are directly connected to the ALU, enabling two independent registers to be accessed in one instruction. The Flash memory supports In-System Programming (ISP) and read-while-write operation through a boot loader section. The picoPower technology minimizes power consumption through clock gating, sleep modes (Idle, ADC Noise Reduction, Power-save, Power-down, Standby, Extended Standby), and a brown-out detector that can be disabled in software. The 16-bit Timer/Counter with input capture and output compare supports precise PWM generation for motor control and audio.
