The AT45DB081E-SSHN2B-T is an 8-Mbit DataFlash serial Flash memory with dual SRAM buffers in 8-lead SOIC package. The device supports SPI Mode 0 and Mode 3 with RapidS operation up to 85MHz. The unique dual-buffer architecture allows simultaneous data reception while reprogramming the main memory array, enabling continuous data streaming in logging applications. The page size is configurable as 256 or 264 bytes (factory pre-configurable). The device features individual sector protection, sector lockdown, and a 128-byte OTP security register with 64 bytes factory-programmed unique identifier and 64 bytes user-programmable. The SSHN2B-T suffix denotes 8-lead SOIC (0.208 inch) with tape and reel packaging. Originally designed by Atmel/Adesto, now produced by Renesas.

The dual SRAM buffers (Buffer 1 and Buffer 2) allow the host to write data into one buffer while the other buffer is being programmed into the main memory array. This ping-pong operation enables continuous data streaming without wait states. (2) The SPI interface uses standard opcodes for all operations. A typical write sequence involves: loading data into a buffer via Buffer Write command, then issuing a Buffer-to-Main-Memory Page Program with Built-In Erase command. The erase and program are self-timed, and the host can poll the status register (bit 7) to determine when the operation completes. (3) The RapidS serial interface provides up to 85MHz clock rate for high-speed continuous read operations across the entire memory array. The configurable page size (256 vs 264 bytes) allows compatibility with both binary-addressed and traditional DataFlash systems. The program/erase suspend/resume feature allows interrupting a long erase operation to read from a different sector, critical for real-time data logging applications.
