The AT24CM01-SSHM-B from Microchip Technology is a 1Mbit (128K x 8) I2C serial EEPROM featuring 1MHz clock frequency, 1.7V to 5.5V supply range, and exceptional 1 million cycle write endurance with greater than 100-year data retention. The device uses a standard 2-wire I2C interface with up to 8 devices sharing the same bus via A0, A1, A2 address pins. The 256-byte page write mode enables efficient data storage. The SSHM-B suffix denotes 8-SOIC package with industrial temperature range. This EEPROM is part of Microchip’s high-reliability AT24CM family with Schmitt trigger inputs for noise immunity.

The AT24CM01-SSHM-B operates as an I2C serial EEPROM. (1) The device communicates via a standard I2C bus using SDA (serial data) and SCL (serial clock) lines. Each transaction begins with a START condition, followed by a device address byte (1010 + A2A1A0 + R/W), and then the 17-bit memory address (high byte + low byte) for random access. Up to 8 devices can share the same I2C bus, distinguished by the A0, A1, A2 address pins. (2) Read operations include current-address read (sequential), random read (with address set), and sequential read (continuous stream). The 1MHz clock rate supports fast data transfer. Schmitt trigger inputs on SCL and SDA provide noise immunity for reliable communication in noisy environments. (3) Write operations support byte-write and 256-byte page-write modes. During page-write, up to 256 bytes can be written in a single operation, with the internal address counter incrementing automatically. The write cycle time is 5ms maximum. The 1M cycle endurance is achieved through advanced floating-gate technology with optimized erase/write algorithms.
