The Analog Devices ADUM1200CRZ-RL7 is a dual-channel digital isolator using ADI’s patented iCoupler technology, which combines high-speed CMOS with monolithic transformer technology to deliver performance far exceeding traditional optocouplers. The CR grade supports data rates up to 25 Mbps with ultra-precise timing: 3 ns maximum pulse width distortion and 3 ns maximum channel-to-channel matching. The device provides 2500 Vrms isolation rated to UL 1577 with >25 kV/us common-mode transient immunity. Unlike optocouplers, the iCoupler approach eliminates concerns about current transfer ratio degradation, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature/lifetime effects. The patented refresh circuit ensures DC correctness even when no input transitions are present, and during power-up/power-down conditions.

The ADUM1200CRZ-RL7 operates using ADI’s iCoupler technology where digital input signals are encoded into RF pulses by an on-chip transmitter and coupled across a thin-film polyimide isolation barrier via embedded micro-transformers. The receiver side decodes the RF pulses back into the original digital logic levels. Each channel consists of an input conditioner, RF encoder, isolation transformer, RF decoder, and output buffer. The CR grade uses high-speed encoding achieving 25 Mbps throughput with minimized propagation delay (55 ns max) and pulse width distortion (3 ns max). The patented refresh circuit periodically transmits update pulses across the barrier even when the input is static, ensuring the output state remains correct in the absence of input transitions. The dual-supply architecture (VDD1 and VDD2) enables voltage level translation between the two isolation domains, supporting 3V to 5V bidirectional communication.
