The ADM2687EBRIZ-RL7 from Analog Devices is a fully integrated 5 kV rms signal and power isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver. Combines iCoupler digital isolation, RS-485 transceiver, and isoPower isolated DC-DC converter in a single 16-lead wide-body SOIC. Operates from 3.3V or 5V single supply at 500 kbps. ±15 kV ESD on bus pins, >25 kV/µs CMTI, 256-node bus. BRI suffix denotes wide-body SOIC with increased creepage, Z denotes tape-and-reel, RL7 denotes 1000/reel. Ideal for isolated industrial communication.

The ADM2687E integrates three functional blocks: (1) An isoPower isolated DC-DC converter that generates an isolated 5V or 3.3V supply (VISOOUT) from the logic-side VCC, eliminating the need for an external isolated power supply. It uses high-frequency switching through an integrated transformer. (2) An iCoupler digital isolation section with three channels that couple TxD, DE, and RxD signals across the isolation barrier using micro-transformer technology. (3) An RS-485 transceiver section that operates from the isolated supply and connects directly to the bus. The driver outputs (Y, Z) and receiver inputs (A, B) are on the isolated side. The device supports full-duplex operation with separate driver enable (DE) and receiver enable (RE#) pins. Fail-safe receiver inputs ensure a logic-high output when the bus is open or shorted.
