The AD8250ARMZ is an Analog Devices digitally programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) with four gain settings: 1, 2, 5, and 10, selected via two digital control pins (A0, A1). The 3.5 MHz bandwidth at G=1 and 20 V/us slew rate provide fast settling for high-speed data acquisition. The unique input architecture provides overvoltage protection to +/-15 V from the opposite supply rail, protecting the amplifier and downstream circuitry from fault conditions without external protection. The 500 ns settling time to 0.01% enables high-throughput multiplexed systems. The device operates from dual (+/-5V to +/-15V) or single (4V to 36V) supplies. Packaged in 10-lead MSOP rated for -40C to +85C.

The AD8250 uses a three-op-amp instrumentation amplifier architecture with a digitally switched gain network. The input stage uses two amplifiers in a differential configuration with precision laser-trimmed resistors. The gain setting resistors are selected by CMOS switches controlled by the A0 and A1 digital pins, changing the feedback network to achieve gains of 1, 2, 5, or 10. The overvoltage protection circuit uses a unique architecture that limits input current to safe levels even when inputs exceed the supply rails by up to +/-15V, without affecting normal-mode signal performance. The output stage provides rail-to-rail output swing for maximum dynamic range in single-supply applications.
