The AD8250ARMZ is an Analog Devices iCMOS programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) in a 10-lead MSOP package. The digitally selectable gains of 1, 2, 5, and 10 make the AD8250 ideal for multi-range data acquisition systems that need to measure signals of widely varying amplitude without external gain-switching components. The gain is set either by two digital control pins (A0, A1) in transparent mode, or by latching the gain via the WR input for register-based control. The 10MHz bandwidth at G=1 and 20V/us slew rate provide fast settling for high-throughput multiplexed data acquisition. The 615ns settling time to 0.001% (16-bit accuracy) makes the AD8250 suitable for driving 16-bit and 18-bit ADCs at high sampling rates. The 98dB minimum CMRR at G=10 rejects common-mode noise from bridge sensors and long cables. The 1.7uV/C maximum offset drift and 10ppm/C maximum gain drift at G=10 provide excellent DC precision over temperature. The +/-5V to +/-15V dual supply supports wide dynamic range for precision measurement. The -110dB THD at 1kHz ensures low distortion for AC measurement applications. Packaged in MSOP-10 rated for -40C to +85C.

The AD8250 uses a three-op-amp instrumentation amplifier architecture with iCMOS precision resistors for gain setting. The input stage consists of two amplifiers that provide high input impedance and pre-amplification according to the selected gain. The gain-setting resistor network is integrated on-chip using iCMOS precision thin-film resistors that are laser-trimmed for accurate gain values (1x, 2x, 5x, 10x) with 10ppm/C maximum gain drift. The output stage is a difference amplifier that converts the differential signal to a single-ended output with high CMRR. The digital gain control selects which internal resistor taps are connected, changing the gain within one clock cycle. In transparent mode (WR high), the gain follows A0/A1 immediately. In latched mode (WR low-to-high transition), the gain setting is stored in an internal register, allowing the control lines to change without affecting the gain until the next latch. The iCMOS process combines high-voltage CMOS for +/-15V operation with precision thin-film resistors for accurate gain and drift performance.
