The W25N01GVZEJR is an automotive-qualified 1G-bit (128M-byte) Serial SLC NAND Flash memory device manufactured by Winbond Electronics. It belongs to the W25N SpiFlash family and provides a storage solution for systems with limited space, pins, and power. The device supports standard SPI, Dual SPI, and Quad SPI interfaces with clock frequencies up to 104 MHz, delivering equivalent data transfer rates of 208 MHz (Dual I/O) and 416 MHz (Quad I/O). The ‘J’ suffix denotes automotive-grade qualification (AEC-Q100 Grade 2), extending the operating temperature range to -40°C to +105°C, making it suitable for automotive electronics applications. The device features on-chip 1-bit ECC (Error Correction Code) for automatic error detection and correction, bad block management with a Look-Up Table (LUT), Continuous Read Mode for efficient code shadowing, and ten 2KB OTP pages for secure storage. The memory array is organized into 65,536 programmable pages of 2,048 bytes each, with 64 pages per block (128KB block erase) and a total of 1,024 erasable blocks.
The W25N01GVZEJR operates through a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) using six standard signals: Chip Select (/CS), Serial Clock (CLK), Data In/IO0 (DI), Data Out/IO1 (DO), Write Protect/IO2 (/WP), and Hold/IO3 (/HOLD). In standard SPI mode, data is transferred serially on DI and DO. In Dual SPI mode, data is transferred on IO0 and IO1 simultaneously, and in Quad SPI mode, all four I/O lines (IO0-IO3) are used for bidirectional data transfer. The device supports two read modes: Buffer Read Mode (default for ZE-package ‘R’ variants) requires a Page Data Read command to load a page into the 2,048-byte data buffer before reading, while Continuous Read Mode allows sequential reading across page boundaries with a single Read command — ideal for code shadowing. Writing involves a Page Data Load command to fill the internal buffer, followed by a Program Execute command to program the page into the NAND array. Block Erase erases 64 pages (128KB) at a time. The built-in 1-bit ECC engine based on Hamming code automatically corrects single-bit errors and detects double-bit errors during read operations, while the Bad Block Management LUT allows the host to map out defective blocks and replace them with reserved good blocks.
Pin 1 (/CS): Chip Select — active low, selects the device for SPI communication.
Pin 2 (DO/IO1): Serial Data Out / I/O1 — data output in standard SPI; bidirectional I/O in Dual/Quad SPI.
Pin 3 (/WP/IO2): Write Protect / I/O2 — protects status registers from write operations in standard SPI; bidirectional I/O in Quad SPI.
Pin 4 (GND): Ground — device ground reference.
Pin 5 (DI/IO0): Serial Data In / I/O0 — data input in standard SPI; bidirectional I/O in Dual/Quad SPI.
Pin 6 (CLK): Serial Clock — SPI clock input, frequencies up to 104 MHz.
Pin 7 (/HOLD/IO3): Hold / I/O3 — pauses serial communication without deselecting the device in standard SPI; bidirectional I/O in Quad SPI.
Pin 8 (VCC): Power Supply — 2.7V to 3.6V operating voltage. An exposed pad on the bottom of the WSON package provides thermal relief and must be connected to GND.
