The TPS61165 is a 38V boost converter designed specifically for driving LED strings. It uses current-mode control with an integrated 1.2A N-channel MOSFET switch operating at 1MHz fixed frequency. The LED current is regulated through the FB pin: an external sense resistor between FB and GND sets the LED current (IFB = 500mV / RSET). The error amplifier compares the FB voltage against the 500mV reference and adjusts the PWM duty cycle to maintain constant current. The CTRL pin serves dual purpose: pulling it high enables the device, and applying a PWM signal (200Hz-5kHz) provides direct LED dimming by modulating the internal reference voltage. The COMP pin allows external compensation network connection for loop stability. Over-voltage protection activates if the FB voltage exceeds 1.2V, protecting the device during open-LED conditions.
