The STTH30AC06CWL from STMicroelectronics is a 600V dual ultrafast diode in common cathode configuration using ST Turbo 2 technology. Each diode is rated for 15A average forward current with 40ns typical reverse recovery time and 1.15V typical forward voltage at 15A/150C. The dual common cathode configuration is specifically designed for interleaved PFC boost converter applications in air conditioning equipment. The TO-247 long-lead (WL) package provides excellent thermal performance with 1.5C/W junction-to-case thermal resistance per diode. The 175C maximum junction temperature ensures reliable operation in high-temperature environments.

The STTH30AC06CWL operates as a dual ultrafast rectifier diode in common cathode configuration. (1) The ST Turbo 2 600V technology uses a PiN diode structure optimized for fast reverse recovery. During forward conduction, minority carriers are injected into the drift region, creating a low forward voltage drop (1.15V at 15A/150C). When the diode is reverse-biased, these stored minority carriers must be swept out before the diode can block voltage. (2) The reverse recovery process occurs in two phases: during the storage phase, the reverse recovery current (IRM) flows as stored carriers are removed; during the decay phase, the current falls to zero and the diode blocks. The Turbo 2 technology uses lifetime control (platinum doping) to minimize carrier storage, achieving 40ns typical trr. The trade-off is slightly higher forward voltage compared to standard speed diodes. (3) In interleaved PFC applications, the dual common cathode configuration allows two boost inductors to share the output capacitor while operating 180 degrees out of phase. This reduces input/output ripple current, enabling smaller EMI filters and output capacitors. Each diode handles one phase of the interleaved boost, and the common cathode connects to the high-voltage output bus.
