The SN74LV04APWR is a hex inverter from TI in TSSOP-14 from the LV (Low Voltage) logic family, operating from 1.65V to 5.5V. It contains six independent inverters: each inverter performs the Boolean NOT function (Y = NOT A). When the input is HIGH, the output is LOW, and vice versa. The LV family uses a BiCMOS process that provides CMOS low power consumption with improved output drive compared to pure CMOS at 3.3V. Output drive current is 8mA at 3.3V and 24mA at 5.5V. Propagation delay is 4.5ns at 3.3V, fast enough for most digital logic applications. The wide supply range allows the device to serve as a level translator: it can accept 1.8V inputs while operating at 3.3V VCC, effectively translating the 1.8V logic to 3.3V levels on the output. Input voltage tolerance extends to 5.5V regardless of VCC, allowing 5V inputs on a 3.3V device. This is commonly used for logic inversion, crystal oscillator buffers, and simple signal conditioning in mixed-voltage systems.
