The SN74LS245N from Texas Instruments is an octal bidirectional bus transceiver with 3-state outputs, designed for interfacing two data buses. The DIR pin controls data flow direction, while the active-low OE pin enables or disables all outputs. The non-inverting data path makes it ideal for buffering microprocessor buses, memory interfaces, and I/O port expansion in 5V TTL systems.

The 74LS245 contains eight bidirectional transceiver elements. When OE is LOW and DIR is HIGH, data flows from A to B. When OE is LOW and DIR is LOW, data flows from B to A. When OE is HIGH, both A and B outputs are in high-impedance state, effectively disconnecting the two buses. The LS-TTL Schottky-clamped design provides fast switching with moderate power consumption.
