The 1206 case size provides higher power handling than smaller 0603/0402 resistors while maintaining a compact footprint. With a 200V working voltage and -55C to +155C operating range, it is suitable for a wide range of bias, feedback, and timing applications.

The RC1206JR-076K8L operates as a thick film chip resistor. A resistive paste (ruthenium oxide-based) is screen-printed onto an alumina substrate and fired at high temperature to form the resistive element. The resistance value is determined by the paste composition, print geometry, and laser trimming. Laser trimming precisely cuts the resistive element to achieve the target resistance within tolerance. The 6.8kOhm value with +/-5% tolerance is achieved through this trimming process. The thick film element has a temperature coefficient of +/-200 ppm/C, meaning the resistance changes by approximately 0.02% per degree C. At 0.25W power dissipation, the resistor temperature rises according to the thermal resistance of the package (~200C/W for 1206), requiring adequate PCB copper area for heat dissipation at higher ambient temperatures.
