The MP2459GJ-Z from MPS is a monolithic step-down switch-mode converter with integrated 1 Ohm power MOSFET, delivering 0.5A peak output over a wide 4.5V to 55V input range. Current-mode control provides fast transient response and easy loop stabilization. The 480kHz fixed frequency allows compact inductor selection. Protection includes cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown. Requires minimal external components in a tiny TSOT-23-6 package.

The MP2459 uses current-mode buck control. An error amplifier compares the feedback voltage against a 0.81V reference. The EA output sets the peak inductor current through a PWM comparator. At each clock edge, the internal MOSFET turns on; when inductor current reaches the set point, the MOSFET turns off. External Schottky diode provides freewheeling path. Slope compensation ensures stability at duty cycles above 50%.
