The MF-FSMF020X-2 is a member of the Bourns Multifuse MF-FSMF series of PPTC resettable fuses. This device provides overcurrent protection for sensitive electronic circuits by transitioning from a low-resistance state to a high-resistance state when an overcurrent condition occurs. Once the fault is removed and power is cycled, the device resets automatically. The freeXpansion design ensures consistent and reliable tripping performance across a wide temperature range. With its compact 0603 footprint and low 0.65mm profile, it is ideal for space-constrained applications such as portable electronics, USB peripherals, and automotive control modules.

The MF-FSMF020X-2 operates on the PTC polymer principle. Under normal conditions (current below Ihold), the device maintains low resistance. When overcurrent exceeds the trip current (Itrip), internal polymer heats and transitions from crystalline to amorphous state, breaking conductive pathways and increasing resistance by orders of magnitude. Once power is removed and the device cools, the polymer contracts and conductive pathways reform, restoring the low-resistance state. The freeXpansion design allows the polymer element to expand freely within the concave package for repeatable protection cycling.
