The CSS2H series uses electron-beam (EB) welded metal strip construction for ultra-low resistance values with excellent long-term stability and low thermal EMF. The L500F suffix decodes as: L=low value, 500=0.5mOhm (500 micro-ohm), F=+/-1% tolerance. The AEC-Q200 qualification makes it suitable for automotive current sensing applications where reliability under harsh conditions is essential. The 0.5mOhm resistance minimizes power dissipation and voltage drop in high-current paths, while the +/-1% tolerance ensures accurate current measurement.

The CSS2H-2512R-L500F operates as a four-terminal current sense resistor using metal strip technology. (1) Metal Strip Construction: An electron-beam (EB) welded metal alloy strip forms the resistive element between two copper terminals. The metal strip provides the ultra-low 0.5mOhm resistance with +/-50ppm/C temperature coefficient and low thermal EMF. The EB welding ensures a reliable bond between the resistive element and terminals with minimal contact resistance. (2) Current Sensing: Current flowing through the resistor generates a proportional voltage drop (V = I x R). At 0.5mOhm, a 10A current produces only 5mV, requiring a precision amplifier for measurement. The low resistance minimizes power dissipation (P = I2 x R = 0.05W at 10A) and does not significantly affect the measured circuit. (3) Thermal Management: The 2512 package provides 6W power dissipation capability with the metal strip acting as an efficient thermal conductor to the PCB. The 1.13mm thickness allows efficient heat transfer to the board copper planes.
