The MAX3483ECSA+T is a 3.3V RS-485/RS-422 transceiver operating at 250kbps data rate in SOIC-8. The driver section converts single-ended TTL/CMOS logic (DI pin) to differential signals on the A and B bus pins. When DE is HIGH, the driver output is enabled and the differential voltage (VA-VB) is approximately 2V for a logic 1 and -2V for a logic 0. The receiver section converts the differential bus signals back to single-ended logic on RO. When RE is LOW, the receiver is enabled. The fail-safe feature ensures RO is HIGH when the bus is open, shorted, or idle (VA equals VB). The ESD protection diodes on A and B pins provide +/-15kV HBM protection. The 250kbps slew-rate-limited driver minimizes EMI and reflections on non-terminated or improperly terminated cables up to 4000 feet. For half-duplex communication, DE and RE are typically tied together and controlled by one GPIO.
