The LM5021MM-2/NOPB is a 100V current-mode PWM controller from TI in VSSOP-10, designed for isolated forward and flyback converters. The -2 version supports input voltages from 15V to 100V, suitable for telecom -48V and industrial 24V systems. The internal VCC regulator starts at 7.7V and can be self-biased from the transformer auxiliary winding after start-up, reducing IC power dissipation. The RT pin sets the switching frequency: fSW = 10kOhm / RSET x 1MHz (e.g., RSET = 20kOhm gives 500kHz). Current-mode control provides: 1) Cycle-by-cycle current limiting via the CS pin (0.5V threshold); 2) Inherent input voltage feed-forward for improved line regulation; 3) Slope compensation via an internal 50mV/us ramp added to the current sense signal. The COMP pin accepts the error amplifier output from the optocoupler (isolated feedback) or direct feedback (non-isolated). The SS pin controls soft-start: the internal 10uA current source charges an external capacitor, ramping the PWM duty cycle from 0% to maximum over tSS = CSS x 0.5V / 10uA. The UVLO pin uses an external resistor divider to set the start/stop voltage thresholds. The 2A peak gate drive directly drives external MOSFETs up to 50nC gate charge.
