The ISO3080DWR is an isolated RS-485 transceiver from TI in SOIC-16W with 2500Vrms isolation and 1Mbps data rate. It integrates a standard RS-485 transceiver with capacitive digital isolation between the logic side (VCC1/GND1) and bus side (VCC2/GND2). The isolation barrier uses silicon dioxide (SiO2) dielectric between capacitive coupler plates, providing 2500Vrms withstand voltage. Data from the MCU (DI pin, logic side) is encoded into high-frequency pulses, coupled across the isolation barrier, decoded on the bus side, and driven onto the A/B bus lines. Conversely, received bus data is coupled back across the barrier and presented on the RO pin. The two independent supplies (VCC1 and VCC2) can be at different voltages (3.3V logic, 5V bus), providing level translation across the isolation barrier. The DE/RE control signals are also isolated, allowing the MCU to control bus direction from the isolated side. The 1Mbps data rate supports standard RS-485 communication up to 1200m. Fail-safe biasing ensures RO is HIGH when the bus is idle. The device supports up to 160 nodes on the bus.
