The HMC832ALP6GETR is an Analog Devices (Hittite) high-performance fractional-N PLL with integrated VCO in a 40-lead 6x6mm LFCSP package. The integrated VCO covers 1500-3000MHz fundamental, with an output divider (1/2/4/6…/62) extending continuous output from 25MHz to 3000MHz. The -110dBc/Hz in-band phase noise and -226dBc/Hz fractional FOM represent industry-leading performance. The 24-bit fractional modulus provides 3Hz typical resolution, and exact frequency mode enables 0Hz frequency error. The 100MHz maximum phase detector rate permits wide loop bandwidths. The 12dB RF output gain control and output mute provide flexible output management. The ETR suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging.

The HMC832A uses a fractional-N PLL architecture with a sigma-delta modulator controlling the feedback divider. The VCO generates 1500-3000MHz, which is divided by N (integer + fractional) and compared with the reference at the phase detector. The phase detector output, filtered by the charge pump and loop filter, produces VTUNE. The sigma-delta modulator (24-bit) dithers the integer divider for fractional division ratios, with high-order MASH shaping quantization noise to high frequencies where the loop filter attenuates it. Exact frequency mode eliminates fractional spurs. The output divider extends sub-1500MHz outputs.
