The DHT22 (AM2302) from Aosong is a high-accuracy digital temperature and humidity sensor with +/-0.5C temperature accuracy and +/-2% RH humidity accuracy. It uses the same single-wire protocol as the DHT11 but with 16-bit resolution and wider operating ranges. Packaged in a 4-pin through-hole module with white housing.

The DHT22 (also known as AM2302) from Aosong is a high-accuracy digital temperature and humidity sensor that significantly upgrades the DHT11 platform. With 16-bit resolution providing 0.1C and 0.1% RH steps, +/-0.5C temperature accuracy, and +/-2% RH humidity accuracy, it is suitable for professional environmental monitoring. The sensor covers a wide operating range of -40 to +80C and 0-100% RH. It uses the same single-wire protocol as the DHT11 but transmits 40 bits of 16-bit data. The minimum sampling interval is 2 seconds. The white housing distinguishes it from the blue DHT11.

The DHT22 uses a capacitive humidity sensing element and a bandgap temperature sensor paired with a built-in ADC and microcontroller. The capacitive humidity sensor changes its capacitance proportionally to ambient relative humidity. The bandgap temperature sensor provides a voltage proportional to absolute temperature. The internal MCU digitizes both readings to 16-bit resolution and stores calibrated values. Communication uses the same single-wire protocol as the DHT11: the host initiates by pulling DATA low for at least 1ms, the sensor responds with 80us low and 80us high sync pulses, then transmits 40 bits (16-bit humidity + 16-bit temperature + 8-bit checksum). Bit encoding uses 26-28us high for 0, 70us high for 1.
