The DHT11 is a basic, low-cost digital temperature and humidity sensor. It provides calibrated digital output with 8-bit temperature resolution (0-50C, +/-2C) and 8-bit humidity resolution (20-90% RH, +/-5%). Communication uses a single-wire proprietary protocol. Packaged in a 4-pin through-hole module.

The DHT11 is a basic, ultra-low-cost digital temperature and humidity sensor. Inside the sensor, a resistive humidity sensing element and a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor are paired with an 8-bit microcontroller that provides calibrated digital output via a single-wire bidirectional protocol. The 8-bit resolution gives 1C temperature steps and 1% RH humidity steps, adequate for basic environmental monitoring. The sensor requires a minimum 1-second interval between readings. Its extremely low cost makes it one of the most popular sensors in Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects, though it is not suitable for precision measurement applications.

The DHT11 combines a humidity-dependent resistive element and an NTC thermistor on a single substrate with a built-in 8-bit MCU. The MCU reads the analog sensors, digitizes the data, and stores calibrated 8-bit values for temperature and humidity. Communication uses a single-wire protocol: the host pulls the data line low for at least 18ms to start a conversion, then releases it. The DHT11 responds by pulling the line low for 80us, then high for 80us, followed by 40 bits of data (8-bit humidity integer + 8-bit humidity decimal + 8-bit temperature integer + 8-bit temperature decimal + 8-bit checksum). Each bit is encoded by the duration of the high pulse: 26-28us for 0, approximately 70us for 1.
