The ADG1608BRUZ from Analog Devices is a monolithic CMOS analog multiplexer comprising eight single channels in a 16-lead TSSOP package. The device switches one of eight inputs to a common output as determined by the 3-bit binary address lines A0, A1, and A2. An EN input enables or disables the device; when disabled, all channels are switched off. Each switch conducts equally well in both directions when on and has an input signal range that extends to the supplies. The 4.5 Ohm typical on resistance with 1 Ohm flatness ensures excellent linearity and low distortion when switching audio and video signals. The on-resistance profile is very flat over the full analog input range. The device operates from single 3.3V to 16V or dual +/-3.3V to +/-8V supplies. The 3V logic-compatible digital inputs (VINH=2.0V, VINL=0.8V) eliminate the need for a separate VL logic supply. CMOS construction ensures ultralow power dissipation of less than 8 nW, making the part ideal for battery-powered and portable instruments. All switches exhibit break-before-make switching action with low charge injection for minimum transients.

The ADG1608BRUZ uses a CMOS transmission gate architecture for each switch channel. (1) Transmission Gate: Each channel consists of parallel N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs forming a bidirectional switch. The N-channel device conducts well for signals near the positive rail, while the P-channel device handles signals near the negative rail. Together, they provide low and flat on resistance across the entire signal range. (2) Address Decoding: A 3-to-8 decoder maps the 3-bit address (A0, A1, A2) to one of eight switch enable signals. Only the addressed channel is turned on; all others remain off. (3) Break-Before-Make: When the address changes, the currently on channel is turned off before the new channel turns on, preventing momentary short circuits between inputs. (4) Charge Injection: The gate drive signals are carefully balanced to minimize the charge coupled from the digital control lines to the analog signal path during switching transitions, reducing glitch energy at the output.
