The device integrates a USB 2.0 full-speed function controller, USB transceiver with on-chip matching and pull-up resistors, precision oscillator (no external crystal required), on-chip 3.3V voltage regulator, and a full-featured UART with modem control signals. The 20-pin QFN package measuring only 3x3mm makes it one of the smallest USB-to-UART solutions available. The CP2102N supports UART baud rates from 300 baud to 3 Mbaud with configurable data formats (5-8 data bits, 1/1.5/2 stop bits, multiple parity options). A 960-byte internal programmable ROM stores USB descriptors including Vendor ID, Product ID, serial number, and product description strings, which can be customized using Silicon Labs’ simple GUI-based configurator tool. The device requires no firmware development, and royalty-free Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. With 512-byte transmit and receive buffers and support for hardware flow control, the CP2102N handles high-speed data transfer reliably.
