The BQ76200PWR from Texas Instruments is a high-side N-channel MOSFET driver for battery pack charge/discharge control in a 16-pin TSSOP package. The PW denotes TSSOP-16, R denotes tape and reel. The device drives back-to-back NMOS FETs for charge and discharge switching on the high-side (positive terminal) of battery packs, avoiding ground disconnection and maintaining communication between pack and host. An integrated charge pump generates approximately 14V above the BAT voltage to drive the NMOS gates, with an external scalable capacitor to support multiple parallel FETs. The PCHG driver controls a P-channel MOSFET for current-limited pre-charge of deeply depleted packs or pre-discharge for inrush current limiting. Independent digital enable pins (CHG_EN, DSG_EN, PCHG_EN, CP_EN) allow flexible control by the companion bq769x0 AFE or host MCU. The 100V maximum voltage tolerance supports 12V to 48V battery packs. An internal switch connects PACK+ voltage to an external resistor divider for charger detection.

The BQ76200 operates through three subsystems: (1) Charge Pump: An internal charge pump generates approximately 14V above the BAT pin voltage to drive the gate of NMOS FETs above their source voltage (which sits at BAT potential). The charge pump requires an external capacitor between VDDCP and BAT pins. The capacitor value scales with the number of parallel FETs (larger gate charge requires larger capacitor). The CP_EN pin enables the charge pump, and it can also be auto-enabled by CHG_EN or DSG_EN. (2) FET Drivers: CHG output drives the charge NMOS gate to BAT+VDDCP when CHG_EN is high. DSG output drives the discharge NMOS gate similarly. When disabled, both outputs pull to BAT (FETs off). The PCHG output drives a P-channel MOSFET gate to provide a low-current pre-charge path independent of the main NMOS FETs. (3) Pack Monitor: An internal analog switch controlled by PMON connects the PACK+ voltage to the PACKDIV pin, where an external resistor divider scales the voltage for ADC measurement by the host or AFE. The switch has finite on-resistance, so PMON should only be enabled during measurement to minimize power consumption.
