The TPS5430DDA from Texas Instruments is a 3A step-down buck converter integrating a 110 mΩ high-side N-channel MOSFET in a thermally enhanced SOIC-8 PowerPAD package. With a wide 5.5V to 36V input range and adjustable output from 1.22V to 31V, it delivers up to 95% efficiency at 500 kHz fixed switching frequency. Internal compensation, slow-start, and comprehensive protection (OCP, OVP, thermal shutdown) minimize external components and simplify design.

The TPS5430DDA uses voltage-mode control with input voltage feed-forward to maintain stable operation across wide input variations. The internal oscillator generates a fixed 500 kHz sawtooth ramp. The error amplifier compares the divided output voltage (VSENSE pin) with a 1.22V internal reference, and the PWM comparator modulates the duty cycle of the integrated high-side NMOS switch. The feed-forward path adjusts the ramp amplitude proportionally to input voltage, providing immediate duty cycle correction for line transients. An internal bootstrap diode charges the BOOT capacitor during each off-cycle to provide gate drive above VIN for the high-side MOSFET. The PH pin connects to the external inductor and catch diode to form the buck output stage.
