The CD4025BE from Texas Instruments is a triple 3-input NOR gate in the 4000B CMOS family. It contains three independent NOR gates, each with three inputs and one output. The NOR function produces a HIGH output only when all three inputs are LOW; any HIGH input forces the output LOW. This makes the 3-input NOR particularly useful for active-LOW control logic where an action should occur only when multiple conditions are all inactive (LOW). The 3-15V supply range allows use in systems where 5V logic is not available, such as 9V or 12V battery-powered circuits. The CD4025BE complements the CD4023BE (triple 3-input NAND) and CD4001BE (quad 2-input NOR) in the 4000B logic family.

Each NOR gate in the CD4025BE uses a CMOS implementation with three parallel N-channel pull-down transistors and three series P-channel pull-up transistors. When any input is HIGH, at least one N-channel transistor turns on and at least one P-channel transistor turns off, pulling the output LOW. Only when all three inputs are LOW do all three N-channel transistors turn off and all three P-channel transistors turn on, pulling the output HIGH. The propagation delay of 60ns at 5V is slower than 74HC logic but adequate for most control and interface applications. The 3-15V supply range allows direct interface with other 4000B devices at higher voltages without level translation.
