The TLV70233DBVR from Texas Instruments is a 300mA low-dropout linear regulator with a fixed 3.3V output in a compact SOT-23-5 package. Operating from 2V to 5.5V input, it features 220mV dropout at 300mA, 35µA quiescent current, 68dB PSRR at 1kHz, and 2% output accuracy. Stable with just 0.1µF output capacitance, it includes an enable pin, thermal shutdown, and overcurrent protection, making it ideal for Bluetooth, ZigBee, and battery-powered portable electronics.

The TLV70233DBVR uses a PMOS pass transistor in a series regulation topology. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (through an internal resistor divider set for 3.3V) with an internal precision bandgap reference. The error amplifier output drives the PMOS pass transistor gate to maintain a constant 3.3V output. The low 35µA quiescent current is achieved by biasing the error amplifier and bandgap reference at minimal current while maintaining adequate loop bandwidth for stability. The 68dB PSRR at 1kHz is achieved through the high gain of the error amplifier and the low output impedance of the PMOS pass device, which attenuates input supply ripple. The enable pin controls an internal switch that disconnects the bias circuitry and pass transistor when driven low, reducing supply current to near zero. The dropout voltage of 220mV at 300mA is determined by the RDS(ON) of the PMOS pass transistor. Thermal shutdown activates at approximately 165°C junction temperature, disabling the output to prevent damage, and automatically recovers when the junction cools to 145°C.
