The SRR1210 series from Bourns features shielded power inductors designed for DC-DC converter applications. The shielded construction effectively contains the magnetic field, reducing EMI and allowing placement near sensitive circuitry. The 47µH version (SRR1210-470M) provides a balance of inductance and current handling that is well-suited for medium-voltage buck and boost converter designs operating at frequencies from 100kHz to several MHz.

In a DC-DC converter, the inductor stores energy in its magnetic field during the switch-on period and releases it to the load during the switch-off period. The shielded construction uses a magnetic shield (typically ferrite) that surrounds the coil, closing the magnetic flux path within the component. This reduces radiated EMI by containing the magnetic field lines. The inductor’s DC resistance (DCR) determines conduction losses, while the saturation current defines the maximum current before inductance drops significantly due to core saturation.
