The 3224W-1-503E from Bourns is a 50kOhm, 0.25W, 12-turn cermet trimmer potentiometer in a J-lead surface-mount package. The 50kOhm resistance value is well-suited for high-impedance circuit applications including sensor interface calibration, instrumentation amplifier gain setting, and low-frequency filter tuning. The 12-turn resolution provides approximately 4.17kOhm per turn for precise adjustment in circuits where small resistance changes have significant effects. The cermet resistive element maintains stability over temperature and time, with typical resistance change less than 2% after 1000 hours. The sealed construction prevents contamination during PCB assembly processes. The J-lead SMD package enables automated pick-and-place assembly while the top-adjustment design allows easy post-assembly tuning.

The 3224W-1-503E uses the same cermet trimmer architecture as other 3224 series devices with a 50kOhm resistive track. (1) Cermet Element: The 50kOhm resistance is achieved through a higher-resistivity cermet composition and optimized track geometry. The resistive track maintains +/-10% tolerance and stable characteristics over temperature. (2) Multiturn: 12 rotations provide approximately 4.17kOhm per turn, suitable for fine calibration in high-impedance circuits where small percentage changes in resistance produce meaningful signal changes. (3) Power Rating: The 0.25W power rating at 50kOhm corresponds to a maximum voltage of approximately 112V across the element, or approximately 2.24mA maximum wiper current. (4) Sealed: The O-ring sealed construction protects against flux ingress and moisture.
