The PIC16F1936T-I/SS from Microchip Technology is an enhanced mid-range 8-bit PIC microcontroller with an integrated LCD segment driver, making it ideal for products with segment-type LCD displays such as thermostats, multimeters, and appliances. The LCD controller supports up to 96 segments with configurable bias and duty cycle. The CTMU (Charge Time Measurement Unit) enables capacitive touch sensing without external components. The 32 MHz internal oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal in most applications. The 14KB Flash provides adequate code space for display driver firmware and application logic, with self-write capability for data logging. The 11-channel 10-bit ADC supports multi-sensor monitoring. The SSOP-28 package provides a good balance between pin count and board area. The T suffix indicates tape and reel packaging.

The PIC16F1936T uses the enhanced mid-range PIC core with a 14-bit instruction word and 16-level hardware stack. Most instructions execute in a single cycle at 32 MHz (125 ns). The LCD controller generates the timing and drive waveforms for segment LCD panels, using a static or multiplexed drive scheme. The LCD bias is generated internally using a resistor ladder, and the duty cycle (1/2 to 1/4) determines the number of commons. The CTMU measures capacitance by sourcing a constant current for a precise time interval and measuring the resulting voltage on the capacitor. This enables capacitive touch sensing with resolution down to femtofarads. The internal 32 MHz oscillator is factory-calibrated to +/-1% accuracy. The MSSP module supports both SPI master/slave and I2C master/slave/multi-master modes. The EUSART supports asynchronous serial communication with auto-baud detection.
