The L293DD013TR from ST is a quadruple half-H driver (dual full-bridge) in SO-20. Drives 2 DC motors or 1 stepper motor bidirectionally at 600mA per channel continuous (1.2A peak). 4.5-36V motor supply with separate 4.5-7V logic supply. Internal clamp diodes suppress inductive flyback. Two enable pins independently control channel pairs. Thermal shutdown protection. DD suffix denotes SO-20 surface-mount package, 013 denotes ST manufacturing code, TR suffix denotes tape-and-reel. Classic L293D in surface-mount — ideal for robotics and small motor control.

The L293D consists of four push-pull output drivers, each containing a Darlington transistor (source, pull-up) and a pseudo-Darlington transistor (sink, pull-down). Each pair of drivers forms one half-H bridge; two half-H bridges form one full bridge. For bidirectional DC motor control, the two outputs of a full bridge connect across the motor. Setting IN1=H and IN2=L drives the motor in one direction; IN1=L and IN2=H reverses it; IN1=H and IN2=H brakes (fast stop); IN1=L and IN2=L coasts (free-running). The enable pin (EN) controls both channels of a half-bridge pair — EN=H enables the outputs, EN=L places them in high-impedance (coast). The internal clamp diodes provide a path for inductive flyback current, protecting the output transistors. The separate Vss logic supply allows direct TTL/CMOS interface while the motor runs from a much higher Vs voltage.
