The ADE7953ACPZ-RL from Analog Devices is a high-accuracy single-phase energy metering IC that provides active, reactive, and apparent power measurement along with instantaneous RMS current and voltage. A unique second current input channel enables simultaneous neutral current measurement for tamper detection and neutral billing. Three sigma-delta ADCs with flexible PGA gain stages accommodate current transformers, shunt resistors, and Rogowski coil sensors. Communication via SPI, I2C, or UART provides versatile register access for configuration and data readout.

The ADE7953 uses three sigma-delta ADCs to simultaneously sample voltage and two current channels at high resolution. The digitized samples are processed by a dedicated energy calculation engine that computes active, reactive, and apparent power using digital signal processing algorithms. RMS values are calculated from the instantaneous samples. Flexible PGA stages amplify small sensor signals before conversion. Internal integrators convert Rogowski coil output (di/dt) to proportional current signals. Calibrated pulse outputs (CF1/CF2) provide frequency-proportional energy measurement for meter calibration.
