The ADUM1100ARZ-RL7 is a single-channel digital isolator from Analog Devices in SOIC-8 with 2500Vrms isolation rating and 100Mbps data rate. It uses iCoupler technology: chip-scale micro-transformers fabricated in a CMOS-compatible process with a 20um polyimide insulation layer providing 2500Vrms isolation. The transmitter encodes the input signal into short pulses that drive the primary coil. The secondary coil receives the pulses through magnetic coupling, and the receiver reconstructs the original signal. Unlike optocouplers, iCouplers have no LED aging or CTR degradation, and the magnetic coupling is inherently bidirectional (though the ADUM1100 is unidirectional). The 100Mbps data rate supports high-speed digital protocols. The refresh circuit transmits a DC state update every 1us to maintain correct output even when input is static. Quiescent current is 0.5mA per channel at 5V. Propagation delay is 12ns typical (vs. 500ns for optocouplers), critical for high-speed timing applications. Each side operates independently at 2.7-5.5V, enabling level translation. The -RL7 suffix denotes tape-and-reel packaging for automated assembly.
