The W25Q256JVFIQ from Winbond is a 256Mbit (32MB) SPI serial flash memory supporting standard, dual, quad, and QPI operation modes. At 133 MHz clock frequency, quad mode achieves 532 MHz equivalent throughput, enabling fast code shadowing and XIP operation. The device supports both 3-byte and 4-byte address modes to access the full 32MB address space. With 4KB, 32KB, and 64KB erase options, program and erase suspend/resume, and security registers with OTP lock, it provides flexible and secure non-volatile storage in a 16-pin SOIC package.

The W25Q256JVFIQ uses NOR-type flash memory cells organized as 32M x 8 bits. In quad SPI mode, four data lines (SI, SO, WP, HOLD repurposed as SIO0-SIO3) operate simultaneously for 4x throughput. QPI mode uses all four lines for both commands and data. For the full 256Mbit address space, the device uses 4-byte addressing or a bank register with 3-byte addresses. Program and erase suspend/resume allows interrupting a long erase or program operation to read from a different area, enabling concurrent firmware execution and updates.
