The VSML2512S3-R003F is an automotive-grade Power Metal Strip current sense resistor from Vishay, featuring 3mOhm resistance with +/-1% tolerance in a 2512 (6432 Metric) surface-mount package. Rated at 3W with low TCR of +/-50 ppm/C, AEC-Q200 qualified. The ultra-low 3mOhm resistance enables accurate current sensing at tens of amperes with minimal power loss, making it ideal for automotive battery management, motor drives, and power supply current monitoring.

The VSML2512S3-R003F operates as a precision current sense resistor:

1. Metal Strip Construction: A solid metal alloy strip (manganese-copper or nickel-chromium) provides the resistive element. Unlike thick film, the metal strip has very low and predictable TCR (+/-50 ppm/C) and no aging effect.

2. Kelvin Sensing: The 4-terminal construction (2 current + 2 sense) enables Kelvin (4-wire) measurement, eliminating lead resistance from the measurement. This is critical at 3mOhm where lead resistance would otherwise be a significant error source.

3. Low TCR: +/-50 ppm/C means the resistance changes at most 0.005% per degree C. Over a 100C range, total drift is only +/-0.5%, preserving the 1% tolerance budget.

4. High Current: At 3mOhm, 30A produces only 90mV drop and 2.7W dissipation. The 2512 package provides sufficient thermal mass for 3W continuous dissipation.

5. AEC-Q200: Automotive qualified for reliable current sensing in battery management and motor control applications.
