The MC33275DT-3.3RKG from onsemi is a 300mA micropower low-dropout voltage regulator with 3.3V fixed output in DPAK package. The 260mV maximum dropout voltage at full load enables efficient regulation from a 3.6V Li-ion battery. The device requires only 0.33uF output capacitance for stability, reducing BOM cost and board space. The 75dB PSRR makes it suitable for post-regulation after switching converters. Internal current limiting and thermal shutdown protect against fault conditions.

The MC33275DT-3.3RKG operates as a series-pass LDO regulator. (1) A PNP pass transistor provides the low dropout characteristic – the collector is connected to the output and the emitter to the input, allowing the output to approach the input voltage within a saturation voltage of 260mV at 300mA. (2) The error amplifier compares a divided version of the output voltage with an internal bandgap reference (1.235V). The feedback loop adjusts the base drive to the PNP pass transistor to maintain regulation. The tight +/-2% output accuracy comes from laser-trimmed resistors. (3) The internal current limit circuit senses the pass transistor current and limits it to approximately 600mA during overload. Thermal shutdown activates at approximately 165C junction temperature, cycling on and off until the fault is removed.
