The LT3462AES6#TRPBF is an Analog Devices micropower step-up DC/DC converter with an integrated 36V NPN power switch and Schottky diode in a 6-lead TSOT-23 package. The 350mA switch current limit and 36V switch rating allow output voltages up to 34V from inputs as low as 1V, enabling single-cell battery to LCD bias and LED driver applications. The 600kHz fixed switching frequency allows small inductor and capacitor values for compact solutions. The 20uA quiescent current minimizes battery drain in always-on applications, while the 0.5uA shutdown current preserves battery life. The integrated Schottky diode eliminates the external catch diode, reducing component count and board space. Internal soft-start prevents inrush current overshoot at startup. The current-mode control provides fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. Packaged in 6-lead TSOT-23 rated for -40C to +85C.

The LT3462A uses a current-mode pulse-width modulation (PWM) control scheme for the boost topology. During each 600kHz switching cycle, the internal NPN switch turns on, causing current to ramp up in the external inductor and store energy. When the peak current reaches the 350mA limit (or the PWM comparator trips), the switch turns off and the inductor current flows through the integrated Schottky diode into the output capacitor and load. The error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage with the internal 1.22V reference and adjusts the PWM duty cycle to maintain output regulation. The current-mode control provides inherent input voltage feed-forward and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. Internal slope compensation prevents sub-harmonic oscillation at duty cycles above 50%. The integrated Schottky diode provides a low forward voltage (0.3V typical) path for the inductor current during switch off-time.
