The LAN8742A-CZ-TR is a 10/100 Ethernet PHY transceiver from Microchip with RMII MAC interface, designed for cost-sensitive embedded applications. It supports 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX with HP Auto-MDIX for automatic crossover cable detection, Wake-on-LAN for system power management, and LinkMD cable diagnostics. The flexPWR architecture supports variable I/O voltages from 1.6V to 3.6V, and the integrated 1.2V regulator can be disabled for external supply operation. The commercial-grade (0-70°C) device ships in tape-and-reel in a compact 24-pin SQFN (4x4mm) package.

The LAN8742A implements the 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX physical layers. For 100BASE-TX, it performs 4B5B encoding/decoding, MLT-3 line coding, and digital adaptive equalization with echo cancellation. For 10BASE-T, it uses Manchester encoding. The RMII interface transfers data to the MAC using 2-bit wide TXD/RXD buses at 50MHz (100Mbps) or 5MHz (10Mbps) reference clock. Auto-negotiation determines the best speed/duplex with the link partner. HP Auto-MDIX automatically detects and corrects MDI/MDI-X crossover, eliminating the need for specific cable types. Wake-on-LAN monitors for magic packets or specific frames and asserts an interrupt to wake the system.
