The TPS62160DSGR is a high-efficiency, synchronous step-down DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments, optimized for high power density applications. Operating from a 3V to 17V input range, it delivers up to 1A of continuous output current with adjustable output voltage from 0.9V to 6V. The proprietary DCS-Control topology combines adaptive on-time control with a voltage feedback loop, enabling fast transient response, seamless PWM/PSM mode transition, and high output accuracy. The 2.25MHz switching frequency allows the use of small inductors and capacitors, minimizing solution footprint. In power save mode, the device draws only 17μA from VIN, making it ideal for battery-powered applications. The 100% duty cycle mode supports low dropout operation when the input voltage approaches the output voltage.

The TPS62160 uses TI’s DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless transition) topology, which combines adaptive on-time PWM control with a voltage-based error amplifier. In PWM mode at medium and heavy loads, the device operates at a fixed 2.25MHz switching frequency with continuous conduction. As the load current decreases, the converter seamlessly transitions into Power Save Mode (PSM), reducing the switching frequency to maintain high efficiency. The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode. The FB pin senses the output voltage through a resistor divider; the internal error amplifier compares it to an 800mV reference and adjusts the on-time accordingly. The Power Good (PG) open-drain output indicates when the output voltage is within regulation, enabling power sequencing in multi-rail systems.
