The TL431K-T92-B from onsemi is a programmable shunt voltage reference in TO-92 with 2.495V to 36V adjustable output. B grade provides +/-0.5% initial accuracy. Internal bandgap reference with 0.2 Ohm dynamic output impedance. 1-100mA cathode current range. Industry-standard TL431 pinout and function. Widely used as the feedback reference in isolated switching power supplies.

The TL431 is a three-terminal shunt regulator with an internal 2.495V bandgap reference and an open-collector error amplifier. The REF pin monitors the output voltage through an external resistor divider. When the REF voltage exceeds 2.495V, the internal transistor conducts, sinking current from cathode to anode. This negative feedback action regulates the output voltage. The output voltage is set by Vout = Vref x (1 + R1/R2) where R1 and R2 are the external divider resistors. The device sinks between 1mA and 100mA to maintain regulation.
