The TAJD107K016RNJ from KYOCERA AVX is a 100uF, 16V molded tantalum chip capacitor in the industry-standard TAJ series. The D-case package (7343-31 metric) measures 7.3mm x 4.3mm x 2.9mm with 6.0mm lead spacing. With ±10% tolerance, 600mOhm ESR at 100kHz, and AEC-Q200 qualification, this capacitor is suitable for both automotive and general-purpose power management applications. The solid tantalum construction provides stable capacitance over a wide temperature range of -55°C to +125°C with reliable self-healing characteristics.

The solid tantalum capacitor uses a manganese dioxide (MnO2) cathode system. A thin tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) dielectric layer is formed on the porous tantalum anode by anodization, determining the voltage rating and capacitance. The MnO2 cathode provides self-healing capability: if a localized dielectric breakdown occurs, the resulting current flow heats the MnO2 locally, converting it to a lower-conductivity Mn2O3 form that effectively isolates the fault, preventing catastrophic failure. This self-healing mechanism provides excellent reliability in demanding applications.
