The SA58631TK from NXP Semiconductors is a Bridge-Tied Load (BTL) audio amplifier with integrated 32-step DC volume control. Delivering 1W into an 8Ω speaker from a 5V supply, it eliminates the need for an external volume potentiometer by accepting a DC voltage level to set the gain. The 0.1% THD+N at 0.5W ensures clean audio quality, while the 100nA shutdown current preserves battery life in portable applications. The compact HVQFN-16 (3x3mm) package enables integration in space-constrained portable audio designs.

The SA58631TK uses a Bridge-Tied Load (BTL) output configuration where two amplifiers drive the speaker differentially, doubling the voltage swing across the load compared to single-ended designs. This allows 1W output from a 5V supply without large DC-blocking capacitors. The DC volume control works by comparing an external DC voltage on the VOLUME pin with an internal reference ladder, selecting one of 32 gain settings. The input stage includes a differential amplifier that rejects common-mode noise. Pop-and-click suppression circuitry gradually ramps the output common-mode voltage during power-on/off transitions, preventing audible transients in the speaker.
