Using glass-passivated junction technology, it provides low forward voltage drop (0.875V max @ 1A, 25°C) and high reliability for high-frequency switching power supplies, freewheeling diodes, and reverse polarity protection in an SMB (DO-214AA) surface mount package. The MURS120T3G from onsemi is an ultra-fast recovery surface mount rectifier rated at 200V/2A with 35 ns reverse recovery time and 0.875V max forward voltage. Using glass-passivated junction technology in an SMB package, it is ideal for high-frequency switching power supply freewheeling diodes, reverse polarity protection, and DC-DC converter rectification. AEC-Q101 qualified for automotive applications.

The MURS120T3G uses a PIN (P-Intrinsic-N) diode structure with a glass-passivated junction for reliable high-temperature operation. During forward conduction, holes are injected into the intrinsic (drift) region, modulating its conductivity and reducing the effective resistance (conductivity modulation), which results in the low 0.875V forward voltage. When the diode is reverse-biased, the stored minority carriers in the drift region must be removed before the diode can block voltage. The ultra-fast 35 ns recovery time is achieved through a controlled recombination process using gold or platinum doping that creates recombination centers, accelerating minority carrier recombination. The glass passivation protects the junction edge from contamination and provides reliable high-voltage blocking up to 200V. The reverse recovery charge (Qrr) and peak reverse current (IRM) are minimized, reducing switching losses in high-frequency applications.
