The MIC5319-3.3YD5 from Microchip Technology (formerly Micrel) is a 500mA ultra-low dropout LDO regulator with a fixed 3.3V output. It achieves 200 mV typical dropout at full 500mA load, 70 dB PSRR at 1 kHz, and only 30 uVrms output noise with an external bypass capacitor, making it ideal for noise-sensitive RF and analog applications. The uCap design ensures stability with a small 2.2 uF ceramic output capacitor, minimizing board space and BOM cost. With 90 uA total quiescent current and < 1 uA shutdown current, it is optimized for battery-powered systems. The 1% initial accuracy ensures tight voltage regulation for digital and analog loads.

The MIC5319-3.3YD5 uses a PNP pass transistor in a common-emitter configuration, which naturally provides low dropout voltage (200 mV at 500mA) because the pass element requires only a small VCE(sat) headroom. The error amplifier compares a divided version of the output to an internal bandgap reference, driving the PNP base to maintain regulation. The BYP pin connects to the internal bandgap reference through a high-impedance node; an external 0.1 uF capacitor on BYP filters reference noise, reducing output noise to 30 uVrms. The high PSRR (70 dB at 1 kHz) is achieved through the loop gain at low frequencies and the noise-filtered reference. The enable (EN) pin controls the bias circuitry; when disabled, all internal bias is shut off, drawing less than 1 uA from the input supply.
