The MCP3204-CI/SL is a 12-bit 4-channel successive approximation ADC with SPI interface in SOIC-14. The conversion sequence: 1) CS/SHDN goes LOW to start, 2) DIN receives a 5-bit configuration word (start bit + single/diff + channel select), 3) The internal sample-and-hold acquires the input voltage in 1.5 clock cycles, 4) 12-bit SAR conversion takes 12 clock cycles using a capacitive DAC array, 5) Result is clocked out MSB-first on DOUT. The 100kSPS throughput is achieved at 2MHz SPI clock. The input multiplexer supports 4 single-ended or 2 differential channels. The external VREF pin allows ratiometric measurements where the reference tracks the sensor supply voltage. The SAR architecture provides zero-latency (no pipeline delay) which simplifies multiplexed sampling. Supply current is 400uA active and 500nA in shutdown mode.
