The ISOW7841BDWER from Texas Instruments is a high-performance quad-channel digital isolator with an integrated isolated DC-DC converter, eliminating the need for an external transformer or separate isolated power supply. The device provides 5000 VRMS galvanic isolation rated for 1 minute, with a high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of +/-100kV/us. The integrated DC-DC converter delivers up to 650mW of isolated power at 3.3V or 5V, sufficient to power the secondary side of an RS-485 or CAN transceiver. Four unidirectional data channels (3 forward, 1 reverse) support data rates up to 1Mbps. The device is certified to UL 1577, IEC 60747-17, and CSA standards. Available in a 16-pin wide-body SOIC package with 8mm creepage, rated for -40 to 125 C.

The ISOW7841BDWER combines digital isolation with integrated isolated power generation. Key subsystems include: (1) Digital Isolation – capacitive isolation barriers using silicon dioxide dielectric couple high-frequency modulated signals across the isolation boundary; (2) Isolated DC-DC Converter – an on-chip oscillator drives a center-tapped transformer fabricated in the package substrate, generating isolated power; the output is regulated to 3.3V or 5V; (3) Data Channels – four channels use on-off keying modulation to transmit digital data across the capacitive isolation barrier; (4) EMI Reduction – internal spread-spectrum clocking and optimized transformer design minimize radiated emissions; (5) Protection – undervoltage lockout, overcurrent, and thermal shutdown protect both sides.
