The ISO7140FCCDBQR from Texas Instruments is a quad-channel digital isolator with all four channels in the forward direction (4/0 configuration) in a compact 16-pin SSOP (DBQ) package. The device provides 2500 Vrms isolation with basic insulation rating per UL 1577, 4242 VPK transient isolation per VDE 0884-10, and 25 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity. The FCC variant features a 50 Mbps maximum data rate and default-low output when input power or signal is lost (F suffix), providing fail-safe behavior for communication interfaces. The capacitive SiO2 isolation barrier provides long-term reliability with an integrated noise filter for robust operation in noisy industrial environments. The wide 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply range supports level translation between different logic domains, and the low 1.025 mA per channel DC current consumption minimizes total system power.

The ISO7140FCCDBQR uses capacitive coupling through a double silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulation barrier to transfer digital signals across the isolation boundary. Each channel consists of an input buffer, a high-frequency modulator, two isolation capacitors, a demodulator, and an output buffer. The modulator encodes the input logic state into a high-frequency differential signal that passes through the isolation capacitors. The demodulator on the output side recovers the original logic level. An integrated noise filter on the input rejects narrow pulses that could be caused by electromagnetic interference. The F suffix indicates that if the input side loses power or the input signal is disconnected, the output defaults to a logic low state, which is the fail-safe condition for many communication protocols. The enable pins can put the outputs in high-impedance state for multi-master bus applications.
