As part of the GD32F103 series, it offers higher performance (108MHz vs. 72MHz) and larger memory (up to 512KB Flash / 64KB SRAM) compared to the equivalent STM32F103 devices, while maintaining pin and software compatibility. The 512KB Flash and 64KB SRAM provide ample code and data space for complex applications including RTOS-based systems, communication protocol stacks, and signal processing algorithms. The rich peripheral set includes three 12-bit ADCs (each with up to 16 external channels), two 12-bit DAC channels, three CAN 2.0B controllers (compared to one in STM32F103), a 10/100 Ethernet MAC with DMA, USB 2.0 Full-Speed OTG, five USARTs, three SPIs, two I2C interfaces, and an SDIO controller. The 112 general-purpose I/O pins (5V tolerant) provide extensive connectivity options. Two advanced motor control timers with PWM generation, dead-time insertion, and brake input support motor drive applications. The GD32F103 series is widely used as a cost-effective alternative to STM32F103 in the Chinese market, with extensive ecosystem support including GD32 standard firmware library and compatibility with STM32 development tools.
